How to Style Your Curls

Updated: Feb 8, 2022

Finding out the right way to style your curls can sometimes be confusing and frustrating. Do you feel as if you're using so much product that your hair is left looking flat and lifeless? This is a common issue with styling your curls, but it is an easy fix! By the end of this blog post, you will be able to style your curls leaving each strand frizz-free, providing volume, and tighter curls.

The first step to styling your curls is to get them wet. If you prefer hopping in the shower, putting your head under the sink, or using a spray bottle on your hair, any option works.

Now, depending on your hair type, you may want to provide volume in your root area if your hair is lying flat. A way you can do this is washing your hair upside down and using cold water. While you're washing your hair or using the spray bottle, it is crucial to use a wide tooth comb to detangle your curls.

After you have completed your wash routine, apply a microfiber towel to your hair. A substitute can be a cotton t-shirt and you can plop your hair. Plopping your hair involves laying a t-shirt flat on the bed and wrapping your hair in it and placing it on top of your head. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.

Now, time to style. First, apply your favorite leave in conditioner to the lower half part of your hair including your ends. You can also use a hydrating oil. This step allows your hair to keep moisture locked in, prevents breakage, and minimizes frizz.

Next, apply your favorite styling cream to your curls. Flip your hair over until it reaches the floor and scrunch your curls upside down. Doing this allows more volume to your roots so your curls do not lay flat. Use a generous amount of product.

Last but not least, this can be a make or break for the curly hair community, drying your hair. This step all depends on preference of air drying if you want to use a diffuser. If you want to air dry, your curls will fall the way you styled them however, your curls will be more prone to frizz. If you want to use a diffuser, this will help to keep the natural curl pattern.

Finally, pick a style!
